I Took Notes at Genuine Hustle So You Didn’t Have To: The Best Marketing Takeaways

Genuine Hustle is an epic real estate conference, and this past fall, real estate agents from all around the country gathered in Seattle. I always leave with a ton of notes. There are so many topics covered, but today I’m finally going to share some of my marketing-specific takeaways.

Here we go!

Crowd in chairs

“Know who you are and who you aren’t… You don’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea.”

Such a great quote, Katie Lance! Lean into what makes you different from the next agent. Katie also shared this quote from Walt Disney: “Their mediocrity is my opportunity.” Yup. I especially relate to this in the sense of, how are you going to stand out from the herd when all of the other agents are using AI in their marketing?

“The clients you LOVE working with are already out there—but they can’t find you if you keep hiding.”

Yes, I am quoting myself. 💅🏼 I loved preparing for my presentation “Unmute Yourself: It’s Time to Shine on Social Media.” One of the most important types of marketing that you can create for your business is the content that gets more personal. You need to give your ideal client the OPPORTUNITY to get to know you.

“Your stories, your community knowledge, your authenticity—that’s your edge.”

The Director of Global SEO at Microsoft Ryan Ricketts presented about SEO in real estate in an AI-driven world, and whoa. I am motivated! Lean into sharing your expert knowledge, but use SEO to make sure it gets seen.

What happens if you stand up politically while doing real estate?

Lauren Goche, Coral Gundlach, and Danielle Sharp all shared their experience with getting political online + IRL. This isn’t the move for everyone, but for them, it’s only benefited their businesses. I admire them for this!

It’s time to set up your email newsletter.

I spoke on a panel along with Charlotte Price, Christina Griffith, and Kylee Hillabout our email newsletters. Chavi Hohm asked us questions about how frequently we send out our newsletters, what we include in each one, and more. If you don’t have an email newsletter yet, make it your goal between now and the end of the year to get it set up.

“You’re not selling, you’re joining the conversation.”

In Aimee Rado’s presentation, she emphasizes the importance of DMs on social media. There were so many moments I wanted to jump up and cheer. Aimee gets it. DMs are where the magic happens. I also love her quote “Presence over perfection.”

SEO used to be about keywords, but now it’s about answering questions.

After the official conference was over, a smaller group of agents met up for an implementation day. Tim Harvey offered an incredible workshop and gave us his AI prompt framework, and walked us through how to optimize this content. I’ve already revisited my notes from this workshop, and I will continue to lean into a Q&A format in the content I create for my clients.

Whew. There’s more. But that’s all for now!

Thank you to
Team Diva for hosting Genuine Hustle, and everyone who made this happen. It is such a gift to the industry!
