3 Ways to Reset Your Real Estate Marketing Brain

We’re heading into the last few months of 2026, and if you need it, now is a great time for a marketing reset / refresh. No need for a total overhaul on everythingβ€”sometimes even just a few hours and a new perspective can get the creative juices flowing again and renew your motivation.

If you need a little pick-me-up, here are 3 of my favorite ways to reset your real estate marketing brain!

Look at marketing from other industries and see how it might inspire your own.

It can be so valuable to get outside of our bubbles to see what else is happening out there. Head to Instagram and follow the coffeeshop down the street, the nonprofit you love, the skincare brand with fun design, the local foodie. What do you love, what do you find boring? Is there anything you can integrate into your own marketing?

Looking at what other agents are doing can also be illuminating. Don’t forget to check out real estate marketing outside of your market. This isn’t so you can necessarily copy anyoneβ€”this is so you can see what you like, what you dislike, and what might inspire you along the way. Observing yourself peruse marketing can be a great indicator of what might capture the attention of your audienceβ€”
here’s what I mean.

Reframe what β€œsuccess” in your marketing looks like.

At first, you might feel that a successful marketing activity is one that directly results in a client. But we know that is most often not how it worksβ€”it can be more complicated than that. Sometimes it’s just about nurturing your audience so you’re top of mind when they DO need a real estate agent.

Here are some more examples of what marketing success might look like for you:

  • A successful postcard campaign might look like 3 people reaching out just to say hi because they received your cute postcard in the mail.

  • A successful Instagram Story might be 1 conversation you had in the DMs as a resultβ€”a conversation you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

  • A successful email newsletter might be that you’re top of mind the next time a friend of a friend needs a realtor recommendation. You might not even have had a single reply to your email, but you popped up in the inboxes of 100 people and they all thought of you, even just for a moment.

These are all wins, and hard to measure ROI on. Ultimately, your marketing should be getting you business. But it’s not always so cut and dry, so it’s important to recognize where you are experiencing success in your marketing. Each β€œwin” is a piece of the puzzle.

On that note…

Track what’s working.

If business is slow and you feel like you’re putting all of this effort into your marketing with seemingly zero results, it’s easy to get burnt out and feel like you’re just spinning your wheels. So start tracking your winsβ€”even if they’re small. And when your marketing DOES result in a client, ask them about what prompted them to reach out. Avoid just noting that β€œthey were a referral.” Did they scope out your Instagram or website after their friend recommended you, but before they reached out? If so, that’s a big win for your online presence!

BONUS Tip: Be aware of Shiny Toy Syndrome!

Avoid re-inventing the wheel when you don’t need to. If your marketing is feeling stale to you, sure, it’s possible you need a major overhaul. But try to be honest with yourself: Are you just bored? Or is your stuff truly looking outdated or not a reflection of your business anymore?

You may not need new branding, new lifestyle photos, or a new website. Just because your marketing feels stale to you (because you look at it alllll the time) does not mean that it’s stale to your audience.

If you’ve been feeling a little β€œmeh” about your real estate marketing, I hope this little pep talk will help reset your brain!
