Vanity Metrics Are So Last Year! You Don’t Need a Ton of Followers to Find Success on Social Media

Let’s get a few things straight in 2025!

⬇️⬇️⬇️

You DO NOT need these things to have a successful 2025 in real estate:

  • A huge social media following

  • Videos that go viral (on Instagram, TikTok, etc.)

  • Tons of likes on your social media posts

Lots of followers or a viral video DO NOT equal lots of business or high-quality clients.

Sure, it feels good to see that you have hundreds or even thousands of Instagram followers. It’s fun to get dozens of comments on your latest Instagram post. And it’s really fun to see that your latest Reel took off and got more views than normal.

But these are all vanity metrics. These metrics look good and are great for the ego, but they don’t necessarily translate to business.

Many real estate agents I’ve met feel embarassed about not having “enough” of an online presence. Most of the time, these same folks don’t actually have a clear picture of what a “successful” online presence should look like. There’s just this vague sense that what they’re doing isn’t enough.

My guess is that you’re already connected to most of your sphere on your social media accounts. (If you’re not, time to go through your database one by one and make sure you’re connected to everyone on the socials!) I really believe that you can find plenty of business and success this year by leaning into and nurturing the people you ALREADY know.

A small audience can be mighty!

Because I really want to drive this point home, here’s a visualization for you. Let’s say you “only” have 23 followers on Instagram. Here’s what 23 people look like:

That’s not “just” 23 people. If these are high-quality followers, that’s a lot of people!

Even if NONE of these people transact with you this year but a few send you referrals, that’s probably tens of thousands of dollars from your small by mighty audience. That's a very valuable (yet "small") audience, indeed.

Here’s a photo with 80+ people:

I talk to a lot of agents who have more than 80 followers, and they still feel like their audience is “so small.” But look at all of those people! Look at the possibilities.

You get the idea.

In 2025, focus on creating valuable content that is informative, entertaining, and helps people get to know you better. Optimize your content, be consistent, and stay top of mind.

If you're feeling a bit directionless when it comes to your online marketing this year, let's chat. I have new coaching offerings for you to check out!

I wish you the very best this year 😄
